A team of experienced, former journalists

Wise Up PR’s team is made up of former journalists who deeply understand the process of communicating effectively. We’ve been the ones on the other side of the interviewing table and know first-hand how crucial it is to have a polished spokesperson who can nail brand messaging and answer tough questions when they come along.

Effective and assured spokespeople are the critical ingredient in your PR success. Yet in today’s interconnected world, training isn’t only aimed at external audiences like journalists. It also encompasses other important stakeholders including analysts, influencers and a company’s employees. You benefit from a senior-level-only team running your sessions to maximize the impact training has on your spokespeople.

Applying best practices to media training

Rooted in our journalistic experience, we’ve built a comprehensive program for media training to ensure spokespeople are prepared for all that is thrown at them. We’ve worked with executives at all positions and at all experience levels to enhance their presentation and speaking skills. Our media training has been applied to everything from day-to-day interview opportunities to trickier and more high-stakes situations like crisis management, supporting spokespeople with English as a second language, public listings, mergers and acquisitions, company partnerships and more.

Our approach is anchored to providing a bespoke experience that fits each individual spokesperson’s distinct needs. An executive who is already a great speaker has a different set of needs compared to a less seasoned spokesperson. We create tailored training experiences that are heavily focused on training sessions, and real-world tips and tricks and mock interviews, not theory. We believe practice, and more practice, makes perfect.

Setting messaging, as well as spokespeople, apart from the crowd

Beyond extensive, hands-on training sessions, a key value add we provide to our media training clients is to distill their messaging into soundbites that connect spokespeople with all audiences. In many cases, clients have relied on Wise Up PR to provide spokesperson training over many years and our team has also run sessions for large groups of executives.

The end result of our personalized media training? A full bench of trained, on-message expert spokespeople ready to engage any audience.

Media Training

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Media training is training to provide an organization’s spokespeople and executives with the skills and confidence to speak publicly. This includes everything from how to bridge into brand messaging properly in an interview, speech pacing and how to manage high-tension questioning schemes.

Increasingly, this activity comprises training for internal and external audiences, where previously it typically only focused on interactions with journalists. The overall aim is to enhance executives’ abilities to speak to internal and external audiences, to the benefit of an organization.

We are all former journalists and due to this background understand the interview process intimately and can provide insight into best practices for when speaking to journalists and other stakeholders. We also provide real, actionable tips to make sure that every interview, regardless of audience, is a success.

Not all company spokespeople are comfortable under the lights. Not all speakers can thread narratives together in a coherent way. Yet, your brand’s spokespeople are your most impactful advocates across all channels and their visibility and ability to speak with authority and authenticity to all stakeholders is an essential component of a brand’s success across media, employee advocacy, venture capital relations and beyond.

All types of organizations should use media training. Speaking to journalists, analysts, influencers and your employees is a skill that needs to be sharpened and doesn’t come naturally, even to the most seasoned of spokespeople. Effective communication requires messaging to be in place, taking into account your audience and a delivery that has been stress-tested and honed.

Based out of the US market, we’re fully global, supporting clients in America, Europe, APAC and beyond to achieve the goals of their media training goals.
