Above The Fold: The Big Themes At A Glance
TransactPay is a licensed e-money institution (EMI) and Principal Member of Visa and Mastercard. As an EMI, it means it is authorized to issue money electronically for payments.
The company focuses on offering Bank Identification Number (BIN) sponsorship and modular payment services to a range of organizations, including fintechs, banks and institutions. It provides clients with the capabilities to launch prepaid or debit card programs in over 25 countries, across 10+ currencies. The card programs also comprise tokenized cards, such as expense or travel cards and also include virtual account and virtual card capabilities.
Based out of the UK and Gibraltar, its clients include CurrencyCloud, Clearpay, Enfuce, Paymentology and Yonder.
TransactPay had built a stellar and trusted industry reputation as the BIN sponsor of choice for both established and fast-growth fintech companies. However, it wanted to reach far beyond its existing customer base, to significantly increase its brand visibility to support its next phase of growth.
The objective for Wise Up PR was to build a multiyear communications program, creating a long-term strategy focused on a partnership-led PR program, supported by other awareness-building approaches.
When devising a multiyear campaign, messaging is the most essential starting point. Before ever bringing an announcement or story to media, our team reworked and refined in detail TransactPay’s media-facing messages to ensure its offering could be communicated with clarity and that all other brand touchpoints, such as the website, were consistent.
With new partners being a central part of this PR program, our team created a best-practice partnership toolkit to empower TransactPay to start conversations with customers early regarding joint press release announcements. Following the initial customer engagement, Wise Up PR then managed the entire process with partners to completion (drafting press release content, agreeing embargo timings, media pitching and reporting), ensuring the program’s ongoing success.
For brands rolling out a PR function for the first time, a misstep can be to focus solely on one tactic in order to drive visibility. In this case, our team strongly advocated for a multipronged approach, all aimed at generating the wider awareness TransactPay sought. Beyond crafting a drumbeat of partner announcements, we heavily focused on the ideation and placement of thought leadership articles within key fintech publications to secure executive visibility, as well as a widespread awards submission program.
To further leverage the key events that TransactPay was exhibiting at, like Money20/20, we developed a yearly, recurring industry report containing proprietary data, as well as insights from the team. This key content asset was then leveraged heavily for earned media in the form of a launch press release, thought leadership content and rapid response commentary.
Following the success of the media relations campaign, TransactPay also sought our team’s expertise in enhancing its LinkedIn brand page. Our team built a pipeline of bespoke content tied directly to media coverage secured to boost TransactPay’s social media presence.

If you’re struggling to build out a consistent pipeline of news, podcast interviews, or profile opportunities, you’ll need to get creative to generate interest with media. A data report, especially within fintech, is a very effective way to manufacture a news “moment” with media. Some key caveats, however. The data needs to come from a reputable source, and it needs to have a high-quality sample, backed up by a significant sample size, too. Beyond this, the report should focus on some clear topic areas, with the data delving into these issues. One great benefit of report content is that it can be recycled across all your brand channels.
If you rely on an outsourced third party to generate the data for your research report, this can often be a time-consuming and costly exercise. One very smart approach is to do all the research in one block and break the expected content up into two separate reports. Again, the important caveat here is that media’s interest in data is directly linked to its timeliness. So, if you sit on your data for twelve months, it lacks credibility with media as it will be seen as out of date. However, if you stagger the release of your research reports across three months, this is a very smart approach to ensure you maximize the effort you’re putting into building these critical assets.
Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) are a goldmine of information and their expertise should be leveraged at the outset of planning a research report. This is because very often in this process, their knowledge will reveal the best industry topics to base your report on, instead of trying to create something from scratch that doesn’t really fit your industry or audience. The SME sessions should be open discussions instead of highly prescriptive calls. Often, it is the offhand comments or deep into a discussion where topic areas are uncovered.
Siloing a report per brand channel is highly ineffective. The best way to launch a report is to coincide and coordinate your media relations activities with your social media, owned content output. Have a clear timeline of the go-live for the report, pre-pitch media to an embargo day and time, as well as scheduling your social content to be published on the embargo lift. This ensures maximum exposure for your research report and reaches your audiences where they are, be it reading a media article about your data or via posts on your company page on LinkedIn.
