The Background

Echodyne is a specialist radar company in the defense sector, delivering a breakthrough radar system to Government, defense and critical infrastructure clients.

Wise Up PR commissioned artwork to capture the essence of Echodyne’s breakthrough technology for our accompanying PR case study, detailing the PR work we’ve undertaken for the brand. The artwork involved trying to simplify Echodyne’s technology to sit easily within an artwork that could be understood in seconds.

The Idea

Our artist partner aimed to simplify as much as possible, with heavier details on the right side of the canvas to balance out the text overlay. The idea was to make Echodyne’s radar the primary focal point, with the background showing a monochromatic, subtle environment to highlight the wider environment.

Our feedback was to focus on a “Top Gun” movie sunglasses idea given its prominence in aerospace and wider culture and provide colorful, striking images that pull people in, with two shades with an old-school radar circle, rather than the Echodyne product itself.

A clear foreground and background ensure the glasses sit in the middle of the image, creating something that is very different and more engaging than simply looking like Echodyne’s product.

The Result

The result clearly communicates what Echodyne was about without seeming corporate or labored, and with a spark of Hollywood magic. We felt that with the radar image below being in the eyes/shades of the glasses, it communicated clearly that it had something to do with radar and would give a cool visual effect.

A visual flourish we particularly liked (given the subject matter) was that the glasses are aviators, with that Top Gun vibe, to keep it in line with the aerospace and defense theme. The glasses sit squarely in the middle of the image, with a focus on the lenses, so it communicates the benefits of Echodyne’s technology.
