Echodyne VP Leo McCloskey discusses counter-drone security at critical infrastructure sites on the Security DNA Podcast from SecurityInfoWatch.

Security DNA Podcast Interviews Echodyne VP of Marketing on CUAS for Critical Infrastructure

Taylor Maurits

Recently, the Security DNA Podcast interviewed Echodyne’s VP of Marketing, Leo McCloskey, on the ins and outs of counter-drone security at Critical Infrastructure sites. Echodyne has been a client of Wise Up’s for a number of years, where we support the team’s overall press office function across media relations, social, and content creation (see our case study here to learn more about our work supporting advanced radar company Echodyne).

In the wide-ranging conversation that published on September 25, 2025, Leo covered a myriad of different topics, spanning recent Executive Orders made by the Trump Administration on securing against the emerging drone threat to how easy lethal drones are to build (and manipulate to skirt traditional security systems) to how to put a viable counter-drone strategy into place.

The interview not only highlights how Echodyne’s technology is uniquely positioned to support security operators and integrators in countering drones, but also allowed Leo to reference real-world drone incursions to put the issue into better focus.

Quoted: What Our Client Said

“The Executive Orders have been a welcome move forward. There’s no doubt. The authorities that we are looking to have extended down to the state, local, territorial, and tribal police, who would be the partners for critical infrastructure and drone security and securing the airspace, have yet to be extended in the way that would sort of give everyone comfort,” Leo McCloskey, VP of Marketing at Echodyne, shared with Security DNA Podcast Host Rodney Bosch.

“So I would suggest that these Executive Orders, especially on the BVLOS side, in terms of putting more things in the air, have been really instrumental in moving the airspace industry forward. I think that the concurrent step that we’re sort of only a half step on is how do we best secure the airspace relative to the more things that we are putting up in it,” he added.

Insights On How We Secured This Media Coverage

Some spokespeople are incredibly well-suited for podcasts. These are more laid-back, long-form conversations where an SME can really dig into the weeds of the topic at hand, without the same limitations of an online piece. In this particular case, we knew our spokesperson had the perfect demeanor to shed light on the critical issue of drones in the airspace, while not alienating the audience by getting too nuanced in the technology or the policy.

We also knew that on the heels of the Executive Orders, there would naturally be increased interest in the counter-drone conversation. Striking while the iron was hot, we offered up our spokesperson to relevant media covering the drone threat on Critical Infrastructure, citing not only their take on the EOs, but why their expertise in the space made them a credible voice to add to the mix.

The result was a roughly 20-minute conversation that could not only be shared with leads in the Critical Infrastructure space, but also spliced into various video clips to be repurposed on social.
